Interesting topic. Here's a small success story for an Internet Marketer. I bought a TLD of an existing brand, and build a similar site, did some basic SEO and started getting a few visits. The original brand owner called me up, offering me to sell the domain for, tried to buy with some good money, and lot of other internet marketing offers. I started negotiating at $200 and it went all the way to $2000. I did not accept the proposal and he threatened me to build 20 such sites and outrank my site with the help of SEO, which he did, but it took him about a year, in the same time I made more than $2000 from ad revenues, and guess what? Then sold the same domain to this buyer for $3000. Total expense = $100, Gross Profit ~ $4900 - Teaching the buyer a lesson with SEO Skills = Priceless!

I have been into Marketing, Business Development and Sales since last 5 years. Trust me, even a smallest amount of Sales closure is bound to bring smile on your face and gives immense boost to your self-confidence. One of the biggest #sales success story for me was to close a deal of 45,000 pounds for a Clay pipe manufacturing firm in United Kingdom, as the same was my first experience working with an International organization. The deal was very important as that laid foundation for the company to expand their products in SPAIN as the client was one of the biggest vendor for SPAIN government.

Here is my story :)
I am not sure, if this story is about sales or hustle. Please down vote, if this irrelevant :)

I am part of MobileFirst a mobile design & development studio.

We all are techies and don't have first hand sales/ business / marketing exposure, understanding and experience.

We recently landed a good contract from India's leading Fashion Retail brand. (They have over 1200 Stores, India wide.)

Story is all about hustle, perseverance and patience results.

Here is what happened :

A.) I was shopping with a friend in Alpha Mall, and a new brand store attracted me. (somewhere June 2014)

B.) Store had very awesome tech installed, so that attracted me more.

C.) Store had all the Apple Products, so that attracted me more and more :D

D.) I inquired store owner and asked tonnes of questions, I asked about CEO or CTO as their technology interested me a lot. (somewhere June 2014)

E.) Luckily, CEO of the brand was visiting store! :) Interacted and exchanged phone numbers

F.) I sent a proposal and probable solution we can design for their store

G.) After tones of followup and exchange of emails - I got introduced with their tech team

H.) I visited their Tech team based in Bangalore (September 2014)

I.) They were scrapping few of the Tech they built and downscaling technology.
We received NO from their end.

J.) I made another visit with other technology solution (January 2015)
Their CTO has left :( I got introduced to someone else who was Team Lead / Newly appointed instead of CTO

K.) We discussed more ideas, but they were very reluctant to invest more on Tech.
(End of Story)

L.) I kept constant touch with Team Lead and other team members, although there was ZERO business from their end

M.) I received a call from their Team Lead they may require few team members to relocate and work in sync with their tech team (April 2015)

N.) Followed up - Followed up. Cold responses. More cold responses.

O.) Received a call in mid July for Candidate Screening. One of the guy from our team got failed in their Screening :( (July 2015)

P.) Hustle. Hustle. We got another screening opportunity. And we will hear back about contract and other terms. ( August 2015)

OMG.) Team members from our team flew to their offices and started work. (August 2015)

Damn, that's a terrific sales journey.
There is another story of the same client regarding Payment, i am sparing it for next time.

Warm Regards,
Arpan

Never give up what you love to do for things you would just like to have!
Realized this in our pilot project, when the rural community could not pay us for organizing the tournament, but we did it anyway with lots of goodwill and gratitude to be earned in the end. That definitely boosted our recognition and word of mouth marketing at no cost at all. It was a tricky decision initially to start with such model, but that's what laid the path ahead.
We did not do it for free, but did it freely :)
P.S - This is a personal viewpoint.

In my early years of being in training industry when struggling to find customers and sell programmes.
I started to think of writing a book in my core strength area. But was confused and concerned a bit about as I want to self-publish the book or else very negligible royalty available for new author.
I have to print minimum 3000 books to bring cost down so as to maximise profits. But I don’t know that if price book at Rs 50 will give only profit of Rs 20 and cannot send to another cities at my cost and if I charge for courier it will be as good as cost of the book?
So finally cancelled the idea of publishing the book.
Later on once get and give enough training and practice in real life on business and entrepreneurship, was confident enough this time to win the match. Published the book this time but only of 48 pages and that too priced at Rs 5100 (@80 USD at time of publishing).
Happy that in the world it’s selling like anything. And happily receiving royalty of more than 85%. Happily because you know publishers give almost no royalty but only prize money of few thousand rupees to new authors.
