Saathi: Fast-paced, dynamic environment for people passionate about sustainable development & women's health

About this Job

We are looking for a mad (materials) scientist to lead R&D of our patent-pending fiber processing technology. You will be responsible for conducting research to optimize our process and ensure a high quality product. In addition, you will design best practices for the upcycling of our pads via compost and/or biogas.

About Saathi

Saathi manufactures biodegradable sanitary pads made from banana fiber to reduce sanitary pad waste and increase women's access to pads. Saathi pads degrade within 6 months of disposal, 100 times faster than conventional pads, and eliminate the need for incineration, reducing CO2 emissions. Our pads match the absorbency of market leaders and do not contain bleach or chemicals.

Saathi was founded in 2015 by three MIT graduates to make an impact across sectors. We locally source our raw materials, including banana fiber, providing Indian farmers additional income each harvest. We also create employment opportunities in pad production for women. Sales of Saathi pads in urban markets subsidize the price of pads sold in rural markets. Our commercial launch begins in December 2016 with our #OneMillionPads program to provide pads to 6,000 women in Jharkhand. Saathi pads will be sold nationwide in 2017 providing all women a natural, eco-friendly alternative.
