Three Storytellers High on Virality

WittyFeed is a platform to express and explore stories in the form of photo-stories and listicles. WittyFeed brings the bloggers, influencers and brands on one single platform to work with each other. WittyFeed tools help unleash the potential of native content marketing.

Vinay Singhal, CEO and CoFounder (Calls himself "Hustler") answers questions posed by eChai Ventures:

Q. How did you come up with the idea of WittyFeed ?

We started back in 2012 with a Facebook page with the name Amazing Things In The World. The page grew to millions of fans within 6 months. We launched WittyFeed in Sept 2014 where the writers could write great content and influencers could find great content to share with their audience while both of them get to monetize in the process. Today, this network of more than 6,000 influencers is what we call Viral9.

For content creators, our tools empower powerful storytelling. For influencers, the ability to enhance their networks. For Brands the ability to connect with the right audience through content. Our platform creates an end-to-end value chain for new media.

The idea is to make our own share of dent in the world while we are here and entrepreneurship seems like the best way to do so at this moment. The power of being able to touch and transform millions of lives through our actions is amazing - there can be no better and bigger motivations than that.

Storytelling is powerful. It has always inspired mankind to do things they never thought they could do. WittyFeed allows us to reach out to more than 115 million people all across the globe monthly and tell them great stories, making them smile while they are sad, helping them entertain themselves when they are bored and inspiring them to do great things in their lives,

Q. What problem are you solving?

We wanted to monetize the facebook audience that we had and so we started a website with the same name and started creating content accordingly. We were monetizing through ads back then.

Later, we realized that we were not alone in this, this wasn't an isolated problem. A lot of publishers were facing this problem. They had an audience on social media platforms but did not have ways to monetize their audience without having a website, creating content and then monetizing it.

Q. How does it work?

Till the date, the growth of WittyFeed has been completely organic. We have never spent a single marketing dollar and has always grown with word of mouth publicity due to unique and amazing offerings provided by us. The quality of Storytellers and Influencers is ensured by making all of them go through an approval system where a complete background check is done to ensure quality.

Q. What is your target market?

Our platform is agnostic to age / geo or for that matter to any such thing. Anyone who wants to read something for entertainment, for information, for inspiration or just to see what’s trending on the web, we are their platform. Most of our readers at this moment are very young and fall between 18-30 age group.

Clearly US and UK are our 2 top countries and remain our most important Geo in that perspective. Having said that, we are growing very fast in India and have already matched the total traffic of ScoopWhoop in our India traffic already. We are starting to take India seriously and expect a lot of growth to happen on that front in the coming months.

Q. What is your competitive advantage?

Creating Viral content is one thing, making it actually viral is another and that is what we do best. We can claim to control Virality.

The distribution system of WittyFeed through its network of influencers.

Engagement tools such as “Live Commenting” for readers.

Completely organic distribution of content.

Q. How much time did it take you from conceptualization of WittyFeed to actually launching it in the market ?

WittyFeed is ranked 176 among all the websites in the world. We are also the only Indian website to be ranked under 75 in USA. Having achieved all of this in only 18 months and with a growth of 50-70% month on month, we are probably the fast growing content platform all across the globe.

Q. Tell us more about your team?

We are 3 co-founders and a team of 50, all working out of our HQ in Indore.

Q. How do you plan to market your product?

We are building some cool stuff for both Storytellers and Influencers on the platform. We want to make is super easy to write viral content at the same time very data driven to select and post content for specific audience on specific influencer’s following.

We are also building something very unique for the readers on the platform for them to engage with the like minded people through “Live Commenting” on the stories while reading through a particular story.

For brands, we continue to build tools where they can access specific audience through specific content, completely organically.

Q. What is your larger goal or vision?

Your product might not survive in 5 years but your communities will - and that is exactly what we want to do.

Storytelling is what we are passionate about and so it remains at the heart of our product offerings. We want to create great communities of Storytellers and readers who love to read those great stories. Also, we would want to build great communities of influencers who are passionate about building communities around particular topics and help us reach out to greater masses by distributing our stories among their followings.

Today, the content is discovered mostly on Mobile web and through social media - we are all over it - tomorrow if that changes, we would probably be the ones leading that change.
