I read an article which mentioned that very few startups have got recognition till date. The conversion ratio is very less. If someone in this community is already recognized pls throw some light.

Process is simple startup has to get recommendation letter from authorized incubators by DIPP, GoI - list is available on startup India website, where incubators have their own criteria/method to accept the application and to judge the innovation of the startup.

Further, incubators are authorized to charge fees 5000 (w/o outside consultancy) and 10000 (if third party consultancy required to judge the innovation of startup) once you get the recommendation letter from incubators, startup has to make the online application on startup India website and upload the scan copy of the recommendation letter. Startup India website generate one real time certificate that is only certification of the startup or application number under scheme.

After that for recolonization under scheme, DIPP call startup for submission of brief write up on the innovation where startup has to submit the write up in given time line and if DIPP is under opinion that startup has innovated the product or process or done value addition in ecosystem by innovation DIPP will add you in the list of recognize startup and publish your name as recognize startup on their website and such start up are eligible for the various benefit under startup India scheme except income tax benefit.

If any startup is looking for the income tax benefit such startup has to take due care of the prerequisite like startup entity must have incorporated after 01/04/2016 and few other criteria mention on the startup India website. So, startup's who are looking for the IT exemption for 3 years must go through checklist under the scheme.

There is no separate application has to make for IT exemption the online application for recolonization is sufficient for IT exemption, only thing is applicant must have to select yes in option "like to avail tax benefit", such application only forwarded to Inter Ministerial Board (IMB) for their recommendation on granting the exemption of IT.

IMB are meeting once in every month (to grant the tax benefit) and notice of the meeting, startup under consideration under the meeting and minutes of meeting are published on the website on regular interval and accessible to general public.

Till date more than 1500 application has been received by the DIPP for the recolonization where 262 applicant got the recolonization under the scheme.

3 IMB meeting has take place where where in 1 meeting 30 applicant are under consideration no one has approved for the tax exemption except one has got the IPR benefit.

2 meeting 3 applicant are under consideration where IMB has given break and BHURAK
TECHNOLOGIES PRIVATE LIMITED has become first company in India to get tax exemption under startup India scheme.

3 meeting 13 startup applicant and 2 incubator applicant are under the consideration where 2 startup applicant namely Ahammune Biosciences Pvt Ltd and Jasper Concepts
Private Limited has got the tax exemption and become 2 and 3 company under the scheme to get the exception apart from that both incubators application are approved and they have become first and second incubators who got the tax exemption under the scheme KSIDC Business Incubation Centre and LetsVenture (Indiepitch Solutions Private Limited).

Further it has been observed that major focus of the government to give away their tax revenue is on startup who are having some short of social impact on human life or applicant is under the category of the product innovation. So it is not that every commercial moms and pops store applicant will get the tax exemption and thats why the conversion ration for the tax benefit is very low.

SO APPLICANT SHOULD HAVE STRONG REASON TO CONVINCE THE GOVERNMENT TO GIVE AWAY THE THEIR TAX REVENUE, BEST WISHES TO ALL ASPIRANT APPLICANT UNDER THE SCHEME :)

I have a bit contradiction with Ankit on his first answer. The registration process was not at all simple, you were routed and re-routed to many different links. We called the DIPP office and somehow managed to get to a right page.
However, after that the process was very quick.
We were asked to describe whether our product is useful for mass or inoovative tech product and that we have its patent rights reserved.
This way we cleared their criteria of recognizing Startups and we got our certificate within two days of communication.
It was a really good experience.

One thing is good that because of digital india initiative the very long registration process can be done now in 2 or 3 days.
Now StartUp India. Whenever i see any policy of govt. I read eligibilties first and that is mostly that Your start up must be 3 years old and last year revenue or turn over should be X lakhs/crore.
My question is if I am in business since past 3 years and running successfully then why i need help?
Govt. did nothing for new comers. May I do not know other initiatives but frankly speaking private competition are much better then govt. Policies.
